Welcome to the South Somerset Archaeological Research Group (SSARG) website. SSARG is the voluntary archaeology organisation in South Somerset dedicated to and focussed on carrying out year round high quality archaeological research and enabling people from all walks of life to get involved in their local history and archaeology.
SSARG works on a number of archaeological projects in the South Somerset area, encompassing all periods of landscape development throughout prehistory up until the recent past. SSARG members carry out all manner of research tasks, from earthwork and geophysical survey to cleaning and recording archaeological finds.
We work all year round during the week and occasionally at weekends, depending on what projects are underway. Everyone is welcome, from complete beginners to retired archaeology professors - no previous experience is needed, but for insurance purposes, only members can participate. Of course, we welcome new members, so if you or your friends would like to join in please come along.
