National & County Organisations and Records
The Council for British Archaeology is an educational charity working throughout the UK to involve people in archaeology and to promote the appreciation and care of the historic environment for the benefit of present and future generations.
English Heritage maintain the National Monuments Record (NMR), a public archive of over 10 million photos, plans, drawings, reports and publications on archaeology, listed buildings, aerial photography and social history.
SSARG is an associate society of the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society.
The Somerset Historic Envoronment Record (HER) includes details of sites of archaeological and historic interest throughout Somerset.
Local Archaeology & History Societies
Whenever possible, we work in conjunction with local societies with a special interest in the area or subject matter of our projects. Recently, these have included:
- Yeovil Archaeological and Local History Society
- The Charltons Historical Society, covering Charlton Mackrell & Charlton Adam
and some of our members are also involved with the Bridgwater & District Archaeological Society
South Cadbury
The following sites deal specifically with Cadbury Castle, which was the focus of SCEP's work and remains an important part of SSARG's area:
SCEP - this site is maintained separately from the SSARG website by Richard Tabor, one of our founding members, and gives more detail of our work around Cadbury castle up to the formation of SSARG in 2009.
